This is your great adventure, and we want it to be perfect. You can make selections from any of the activities described in the following tabs to form your ideal schedule. We recommend a four-week trip that looks something like this:

    Week 1: Cultural Immersion

During these two weeks, your adventure truly becomes your own. We can offer you a huge variety of projects and trips to get involved with; all you have to do it choose which of them appeal to your sense of adventure.

People interested in Education, teaching, and childcare could choose to spend their time helping children in local schools; or volunteering in a Cambodian orphanage. We recommend spending at least two weeks on a project like this, but you can extend your stay for as long as you want.

Anyone interested in Medicine should consider volunteering at our medical outreach centre; or a hospital placement. These opportunities could give you a taste of what life is like for doctors around the world, and could even teach you valuable skills that will help you in the future.

This week offers you a unique way to explore the spectacular sites, and rich history that this country has to offer, and while our Trekking adventures may not be for the faint-hearted, but they are guaranteed to be rewarding. Bring your boots, and get ready for an incredible experience.

During the Cultural Immersion Week, you’ll get to taste the local food, and we’ll even teach you some useful phrases so you can communicate with the people you meet on your adventure.

Below is a schedule to give you an idea of what your first week will be like. It is only intended to be a rough guide; every schedule can be customised according to your choices.

You’ll be expected to clean up after yourself, and play your part in keeping the accommodation neat and organised.

Teaching and Orphanage Placements: Helping the Children of Cambodia

Whether you are a teacher, or just enjoy working with children, you should consider including this project in your adventure plans.

Our teaching placements are designed to give people who are interested in pursuing a career in a specific field their first taste of what it might be like. We also want them to provide professionals who’ve already chosen their career path a unique experience that will help them to develop new skills, and present new opportunities.

You don’t need to have any previous teaching experience to get involved with this project.

    The Project

Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in South-east Asia’ more than 75% of the population survive on less than $2 a day. Like many of the World’s poorest countries, Cambodia lacks the basic infrastructure to lift itself from the grip of poverty. Education is vital to the future generations of Cambodian children; children who are keen to learn, and who understand the importance of learning.

We’re offering you the opportunity to work with the children of Samraong, and help them to work towards a better future. While teaching English will be the main aim of our placements, the dire state of the local schools means that you may be called upon to help renovate, and rebuild school buildings, and orphanages. You might be asked to teach the children about environmental issues, or help them with their work in the vegetable garden.

Some of our placements are only looking for unpaid volunteers, but the experiences that they offer are unique and invaluable to your career progression. New projects are cropping up all the time, so bookmark us to keep track of our future projects.

Check out our paid internships here.

    Cost

    €175 per week, all-inclusive

    Schedule

The information below should give you an idea of what to expect during this placement.

You’ll be expected to teach up to three hours a day, from Monday to Friday. Your timetable will be flexible, and will include plenty of time for you to plan, and prepare lessons; reflect, and evaluate on your work so far; and compare your experiences with other members of staff.

Bringing gifts to share with students, and staff members is often a great way to break the ice on your first day. In our experience, students are less interested in toys, but pictures of your family, home, or pet are always well received.

Medical Outreach Program: Help the people of Cambodia

A medical internship is a fantastic way to travel the world while still developing your skills in your chosen profession. It can provide unique experiences that will help you to become a more rounded professional, and provide opportunities that could take your career anywhere in the world. A tropical climate will present you with challenges and experiences that you have never faced before. You will learn valuable techniques and skills that you couldn’t learn anywhere else.

    The Project

Unlike our other projects, this is designed for medical students, qualified nurses, and doctors. Teaching local students at the outreach centre is the main focus of this project; you’ll share your knowledge and expertise on basic healthcare, hand washing, and whatever subjects you choose.

You’ll work closely with our coordinators to plan the lessons you’ll deliver to the students at the centre. Depending on your level of skill, you could deliver a first aid training session for local villagers; or even help the medical staff at the local health centre.

This program is designed for highly motivated individuals who have medical experience. A detailed schedule will be designed by our coordinators, and is dependent on your level of experience and skill.

    Cost

    €175 per week, all inclusive.

    Schedule

We’ll aim to provide the most flexible schedule we can, but you should be prepared to get up early, and come home late. Your days at Samraong hospital will start at 7:30 a.m., when you’ll join the doctor on his morning rounds until around 10:00 a.m..

Depending on your level of training, you might spend up to three days a week helping at medical outposts. Many of these are quite remote, and roads in Cambodia are often in bad condition; it might take several hours to travel from place to place.

You can choose to spend your time solely at the hospital, if you would rather not travel to the outreach programs; we can offer a more conventional internship experience.

    Accommodation

You will be housed in Samraong with local home-stays, or at a guest house if home-stays are not possible. Living with a local family can be a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture of a country, but if you’d rather stay in a guest house, this can be arranged.

Trekking Tour: Explore the Temples of Cambodia

You might choose to add a more adventurous week to your itinerary, during which you’ll get to explore more of the country you have been falling in love with. Trekking is a great way to explore the amazing temple complex in the Cambodian jungle; and to experience the people and culture firsthand.

Trekking can be tough at times, that’s why we call it an adventure. Although you don’t need previous experience, you’ll need to be in good physical shape, and be prepared to tackle some rugged terrain. We recommend that you bring hiking boots, a sleeping bag, and some insect repellent. Adventures may not be easy, but they’re guaranteed to be rewarding.

You should also be aware that malaria still exists in parts of Cambodia, so you should talk to your doctor about vaccinations before you leave.

    Cost

    €350 per week, all inclusive.

    Schedule

    Day One
We’ll start early, and arrive at our accommodation by noon. You’ll spend your first day relaxing, and getting to know your new surroundings. We’ll head into town in the evening, and have lunch together.

    Day Two
Another early start, and we make our way to Angkor Wat, where your guided adventure begins. There are lots of temples to visit, so we’ll start with the smaller ones and work our way around the complex. We’ll find some time for a short picnic by the lake, before continuing our exploration of the temple complex.

    Day Three
We’ll continue to explore the complex at Angkor Wat, and finish the day by visiting the main temple.

    Day Four
You’ll be free to spend the morning however you choose. We can either visit some more local temples; or relax in the town together. In the afternoon, we’ll make our way to the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, and arrive at the guest house by 4 p.m.. In the evening, we’ll treat you to a spectacular dinner in the city.

    Day Five
We’ll explore the city, and visit the Royal Palace. After lunch, we’ll continue on to the Genocide museum, and Killing Fields. These are important sites that will help you understand Cambodia’s modern history, and the peace process that followed these horrific events.

    Days Six
We’ll visit the National Museum, where you’ll learn about Cambodia’s early history. There’ll be time to meet in the afternoon for a group discussion, and evaluation. You’ll be free in the evening to enjoy Phnom Penh’s lively nightlife.

    Day Seven
You’ll be free to spend your last day however you wish. You can explore more of the city, before making your way to the airport to travel home.

    Accommodation

You’ll stay at guest houses as you trek through the towns and cities of the region.

Laundry facilities are limited, so you should expect to wash your clothes by hand during parts of your trip. All our visitors are expected to be environmentally aware and to use all resources with restraint; especially water, paper and electricity.
