Psychotherapeutic Careership - Argentina

This center in which you will work is a charitable institution which provides professional Healthcare to Buenos Aires. They specialize in various fields, including: orthopedics, gynecology, dermatology, pediatrics, dentistry, ophthalmology, kinesiology, nutrition, psychiatry, psychology, educational psychology, in addition to ultrasound, electrocardiograms and X-rays. The centre offers comprehensive primary care to the local community.

You will be working in the Psychiatric Department, working alongside the local staff and interacting with the patients. The department has an organic gardening project and art school on the grounds, in which you will spend much of your time.

Psychotherapeutic practice is not an easy place to gain experience. For reasons of secrecy and doctor-patient confidentiality, it is often not appropriate or allowed for you to sit in on treatments. However, we aim to give you as exposure as possible within this placement.

Your tasks will include:
* Participation in lectures and reference material
* Prepare lectures and workshops open to the community
* Consultation and discussion of clinical cases
* Participation in the first interview with patients (after initial consultation)

You will work alongside local staff, providing the tools and explanations necessary for the fulfillment of their practice. You will have frequent meetings with your coordinator to make sure you are comfortable and effective in your placement. This placement can be tailored to your interests and abilities.

You will also spend alot of time working in the organic farming, helping to develop the range of plants and crops, learning about recycling and good farming practices. New ideas are always welcome!

You will be given easy to follow instructions on how to get from (Ezeiza) Ministro Pistarini International Airport to the Project HQ in central Buenos Aires. Alternatively you can arrange to be met at the airport for an extra $50 USD.

You will be staying in the newly built Volunteer Guesthouse. You will have; Internet WiFi, a communal kitchen, bathrooms, storage closet, bar/common area, tourist information, laundry service, DVD room, library, book exchange, and housekeeping service. Located in a renovated historic building with a great atmosphere in the heart of the city, you are extremely close to the subte (subway), buses, and trains.

There is no curfew, and you will have a real chance to practice Spanish and immerse yourself in Argentine culture with students and people who conduct workshops for youth and adults. If you want, you can participate in interesting meetings, dinners and parties with other volunteers. There are also the options to stay with a host family or rent your own apartment. Fee:

Staggered Project Fee per month (see below) + £249 GBP one-off Placement Fee

2-4 weeks - $180 USD
4-8 weeks - $250 USD
8- 12+ weeks - $320 USD
 

What's Included:

Project Fee includes 24 hour support and 2 day orientation to Buenos Aires

We charge a flat, one-off Placement Fee of £249 GBP per person per project. This covers our costs for promoting the project and providing our services. We offer full pre-departure support (for all necessary flights, visas and vaccinations) and ongoing assistance throughout your placement.
 

What's not included:

All food, accommodation, flights, insurance, visas (if applicable) and vaccinations. Full assistance will be provided in getting all these arranged.

Accommodation starts at $100 USD a week, and you should budget around $10-15 a day for food.
