Veterinary students and professionals are welcomed to Ubud, the artistic and cultural heart of Bali to help improve the lives of the island's street dogs.
The organisation you will work with is a not-for-profit charity registered in Indonesia, whose mandate is to relieve suffering, control the population and improve the health of Bali's street dogs while educating the local population in animal welfare. Your placement will be in a fully staffed clinic near Ubud which offers a 24 hour animal ambulance, a mobile sterilization clinic, an education program, and a puppy adoption program, plus a continually expanding range of community programs.
The organisation is currently working with the Indonesian government to help draft animal welfare laws and also to vaccinate dogs against rabies in the rabies outbreak areas. Not only will you learn valuable veterinary skills but you will have the opportunity to gain animal welfare legislation and campaigning experience as well.
As a veterinary intern you will get involved in the following activities:
* Assist local staff in their daily rounds at the clinic
* Ride in the ambulance to various parts of the island, assisting in treatments where necessary
* Get involved in the island-wide rabies vaccination programme
* Clean cages and feed the animals
* Walk the dogs and ensure they are well taken care of
* Train local staff in procedures and practices where applicable
* Give talks and get involved in presentation at local schools on issues of animal welfare and rabies awareness
In your free time you will have the chance to get to know Bali's beautiful beaches, mountain landscapes, delicious food and friendly locals.
You will be met at Denpassar airport and taken to the project location in Ubud, a few hours drive to the north.
You will be full assistance in finding suitable accommodation by the local staff. You will be able to choose from the many comfortable and affordable guest houses available. The project staff will make sure you are safe and comfortable throughout your placement.
Veterinary students and qualified professionals are very welcome on this project. However, if you do not have any experience or qualifications in this area you may still apply as there is always a need for auxiliary workers.
